About the IEA DPC

The Data Processing and Research Center (DPC) in Hamburg is part of the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA), a non-governmental, non-profit organization with a permanent Secretariat located in Amsterdam. The IEA conducts educational research studies worldwide. Since more than 50 years the IEA has been launching regular large-scale assessments such as the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) or the Progress in International Reading Literacy Study (PIRLS). The IEA also supports countries in conducting educational studies. For over fifteen years the IEA DPC has been active in the field of empirical educational research both internationally and nationally. The IEA DPC is not only involved in all IEA studies but also acts as a contractor for various scientific institutions and consortia on educational studies.


The IEA DPC provides a wide range of highly professionalized services in the field of educational research, specializing in:

  • data management for IEA studies and for other international and national studies
  • study preparation, organisation, implementation, and coordination
  • support services in data analysis and reporting for IEA member states
  • training and seminars on analysis methods and use of educational research data
  • additional services commissioned by both national and international scientific institutions

The IEA is a founding partner of the IEA-ETS Research Institute which aims to improve the science of large-scale assessments. The IEA DPC's Research Analysts though contribute to the work of the IEA-ETS Research Institute.
